Siwak, avant et après : avis de MAA Coaching

Siwak, before and after: opinion of MAA Coaching

Hello! So, today, we meet for a video from the Test Bench series. This time, I'm going to test for you... or rather, I've already tested for you the siwak stick !

    What is siwak stick?

So, what exactly is this famous siwak stick? I'll show you: here it is, it looks like a small piece of wood that I bought in an organic store. I paid 3 euros for it, and it comes in a small pouch. This one is a stick from the Ker à Nature brand. So, yes, we call it siwak, miswak… it depends, but basically, it's a siwak stick.

What is the siwak stick used for?

What is this siwak stick used for? In fact, it is used to brush your teeth, but it is not a toothpaste. It works more like a natural toothbrush. The mechanics are quite simple.

How to use siwak to brush your teeth

How do you use it? At first, it looks like a normal stick. You first have to rinse it under water. Then, you bite the end a little, about 1 cm and a half, to remove the bark. And, after a few moments, the stick starts to fray and you get small fibers. It is with these fibers that you will rub your teeth. In fact, these fibers slide between the teeth, a bit like dental floss. That's why we say that it reproduces the action of a toothbrush and even dental floss.

    My experience with the siwak

I've been using it for a few days now, and honestly, I think it's really good! I usually brush my teeth three times a day - like many people, I think. I brush my teeth in the morning, in the evening before going to bed, but at lunchtime, it's often more complicated. And there, the siwak is super practical, especially if you're like me and don't like chewing gum after meals.

    Replace chewing gum with siwak

So, a little detail: I don't like mint toothpastes either, I find them too strong. I use an aniseed toothpaste, a bit like the taste of Ricard – yes, yes! In fact, I had a friend who joked that I brushed my teeth with Ricard! So, in fact, I use the siwak stick at noon, after lunch and coffee. It's super pleasant, especially to remove the slightly whitish appearance on the tongue. It scratches well and removes deposits.

Effect of siwak on breath and saliva

A handy point is that it also prevents getting little bits stuck between your teeth – you know, the kind of stuff that can give you bad breath after eating. Before, I tended to try to remove everything with my tongue or rinse with water, but in the end, the siwak does the job well.

And on the packaging it says it has antibacterial properties. Well, I don't know if everything is proven, but what I do know is that chewing this stick stimulates salivation. Like licorice, it helps keep your mouth fresh, and I even find that it improves digestion. At least, that's my impression after a few days of use.

    Maintaining your siwak stick

Little practical reminder : after a few days, when the fibers become damaged, you can cut off the worn end. Then, you nibble another centimeter so that it becomes brand new again. And for the pieces of bark, don't panic! We spit them out, we don't swallow them.

The stick I made is about 12-15 cm long. For my part, I only use it at lunch, so it lasts longer. But for those who use it every time they brush, it will inevitably wear out faster.

    Gum Precautions

Oh, I forgot to mention something important! When using it, you have to be careful with your gums, especially if they are sensitive. You shouldn't scrub too hard to avoid damaging them. It's the same with toothbrushes, by the way, you shouldn't use brushes that are too hard so as not to irritate your gums.

And finally, one last little tip: you have to brush in the direction of the gums towards the outside, not from top to bottom directly on the gum. Same for the lower jaw: you brush towards the outside by going through the inside of the teeth. There you go, it's a little back and forth movement, like that. (making sound effects)

Conclusion: My opinion on the siwak

Conclusion : Well, I'm really happy with it. Since I've been using it at lunchtime, I feel like my oral hygiene is more complete, and it really makes me feel good to smell good in my mouth, even after a coffee! Once you've scrubbed well, you can rinse with clean water to remove any small residue.

There you go, I hope you enjoyed it! In a future video, I will tell you about the Wim Hof method – something I am also testing at the moment. Thanks and see you soon!
